Meet Dr. Jenn

Hi, I’m Dr. Jenn! I am a born-and-raised Minnesotan, originally from the St. Cloud area. As a child, I had dreamed of becoming a rock-a-thologist (aka “geologist” before I knew the term), but my inner “empath” kept steering me back to the helping field of psychology. I naturally and easily feel what others feel, and I’ve always been curious about human behavior and emotions. I initially received training in the neuropsychological assessment of brain and stroke injuries at Hennepin County Medical Center, which was nothing short of amazing. Patient after patient, I witnessed the awe-inspiring resiliency of the human brain and its ability to adapt to major injury. I was hooked! Throughout the remainder of graduate school, I honed my therapy skills while working with college students and those struggling with eating/body image concerns, but I always kept assessment in my back pocket while working as a psychometrist for HCMC’s Department of Psychiatry.
Following completion of my graduate training, I went on to work as a therapist in the Counseling Center at Gustavus Adolphus College for 8+ years. Providing therapy to young adults was immensely gratifying, and I was honored to serve as a guide to those who needed support. But after some time, I really missed psychological assessment – the investigative, data-gathering, and puzzle-solving world that is assessment. I ultimately took a big leap of faith, left the therapy world, re-engaged in the assessment world at Groves Academy, and thereafter developed a passion for serving students with learning and attention concerns.
I’ve since learned that the assessment and therapy worlds are not mutually exclusive. I love infusing the detective-like, objective nature of psychological assessment with my relational, empathic approach. I partner with my clients in a manner that helps to answer the tough questions, but that also helps to provide understanding of one’s strengths and weaknesses beyond a diagnosis. We are all alike in that we are all different – and there’s no shame in that.
Outside of work, you can find me at the cabin with my partner and two kiddos, walking the dog, visiting family and friends, and lounging with a good book or brainless television.
